The First Step to Recovery
You come to our site because of a need or a need in someone you care about. You want to find freedom, and we know exactly where you can find it. Freedom is a most wonderful thing and a most wonderful Person is willing and able to provide it for you. This freedom is in a Person, Jesus Christ. About 2,000 years ago God the Father sent His only begotten Son into this world to die on a cross for your sin. You see sin carries with it a severe penalty because sin is a violation of God’s law. That’s why Romans 3:23 says: For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death. It is obvious that to violate the law of God is a very serious matter. But the good news is there is real hope and help available to any person who genuinely is looking for it.
God the Father in His great grace, love, and mercy for you took your entire sin debt and placed it on his beloved Son. The shedding of His blood on the cross for your sin provided a payment for your sin debt. You cannot pay your own sin debt with anything you can do. Nothing you have would be acceptable to God, so God provided the only sacrifice acceptable for the payment and complete removal of all your sin. Jesus Christ is the Person who died to help you and change your life. The salvation He offers to you is a free gift. Your responsibility is simply to see yourself as the person who has violated God’s law and is in need of salvation. The Word of God requires on your part, repentance as stated in Luke 13:3: Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Acts 17:30: God… now commandeth all men everywhere to repent. Repentance is a change of mind that will lead to a change of actions. Repentance is seen in a willingness to forsake all sin. The power to change is not found in you or a means outside of you. The power to change and forsake sin is found in the Person and power of a Divine Being coming to live in you. How does all of this happen? Let’s go to God’s word to find the answers.
John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
You must put faith in what God has written in His word. We learned in the above statements that we are all sinners. Then we saw that God in love provided a sacrifice in the Person of His blessed Son, Jesus Christ. On the cross, He bled and died for your sin. Jesus was then buried and after three days and three nights was resurrected from that grave by the awesome power of God. We now refer to Jesus as the Resurrected Christ. He died on the cross as a testimony of His great love for you. Then He invites you to come to Him and receive His free gift of salvation.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
The above verses describe salvation as a gift from God that you must receive by faith in order to be saved from the penalty and power of sin. Notice the great love God has for sinners and the great sacrifice He has made in giving His Son as the only true Saviour of sinners. Next we will see the love and simplicity in God’s plan of salvation. Pay careful attention to every word.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Confess what?
Believe what?
Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Where must we believe?
Don’t fail to see that God will remove your sin and guilt and give you the very righteousness of Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Whoever believes and receives Jesus as Lord and Saviour will not be ashamed of Him.
Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Notice that God is willing to give the riches of His grace, love, and mercy to anyone who will call out to Him for His gift of salvation
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
These are two very important points to notice in this verse.
First, “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord” that includes you or anyone else.
Second, those who call will be saved -- saved from the penalty and power of sin!
WILL YOU CALL ON HIM TO SAVE YOU?
The Word of God has much to say about the richness of the life of a person who knows Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
It is the truth of God and His Word that makes a person free.
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
It is a Person who sets you free, and that Person is Jesus Christ, the Person who died on the cross for you.
The Lord Jesus does more work IN and WITH the person who calls out to Him for help and salvation.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
What does Jesus make you?
What changes does He make in you?
Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
What has a Bible believer been delivered from?
Where has a Bible believer been placed?
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
What is another reason God has for redeeming you?
Genuine faith in Christ for salvation always changes a person and makes him into a servant of God as seen in the above Bible verses.

2: What must I do to avail myself of God's help?
3: Will I by faith in God's provisions cry out to Jesus to save me?
